Notably, additional definitions of the “male-end” and “female-end” zones (50%, 20%, and 10%) similarly revealed a much higher prevalence of brains showing substantial variability compared with brains showing internal consistency (Table S2).
Importantly, substantial variability is not a result of the overlap between females and males in each of the brain regions, as evident in Fig. A continuous color representation of the degree of “maleness” and “femaleness” was created separately for each of the 10 regions showing the largest sex/gender difference.
